From Anime News Network: Macross Ship 'Launch Ceremony' to Be Held in February

Macross Ship 'Launch Ceremony' to Be Held in February

Tokyo event to mark fictional launch ceremony in very 1st Macross episode

Not-So-Daily Link of the Day: The official website for the Macross Frontier anime series has announced that a "Super Dimension Launch Ceremony" event will be held in Tokyo's Akihabara otaku shopping district next February. February is the precise month when the events of the very first episode of the first Macross science-fiction romance series supposedly takes place. Specifically, in February 2009 of the Macross timeline, mankind launches the alien spaceship that crashed on Earth ten years earlier — only to be attacked by another alien enemy on the same day.

The real-life event will be called "Macross: The Super Dimension Space Launching Ceremony ~It's Really 2009 Already…It's 2/22 (Nyan Nyan Nyan), Deculture!~." ("Nyan Nyan" is a popular catchphrase with multiple meanings in the Macross storyline, while "Deculture" is a mild expletive in an alien language in Macross.) The event planners are inviting guests from the different Macross series for the event.

Next summer, the anime creators are planning to release a theatrical version of Macross Frontier, the television series that premiered on Japanese television this year. Kadokawa Shoten is launching a new quarterly magazine called Macross Ace on January 26. The magazine will carry a new manga by the original Macross character designer Haruhiko Mikimoto (Gundam 0080, Aim for the Top! Gunbuster) and another manga by Macross Frontier series script supervisor Hiroyuki Yoshino.

Bandai just introduced its toy version of the VF-25 transformable space fighter from Macross Frontier, while two novelty CD singles by the characters Bobby Margo, Sheryl Nome, and Ranka Lee shipped on December 24. Macross Frontier singer May'n (May Nakabayashi) will release an original mini album, May'n Street, on January 21.

Macross manga in the works

From Anime News Network.

Designer Haruhiko Mikimoto to Draw New Macross Manga (Updated)
posted on 2008-11-21 13:37 EST
Tentatively titled Macross The First in recently revealed Macross Ace mag

Update: Famed character designer and manga creator Haruhiko Mikimoto (Macross, Gundam 0080, Aim for the Top! Gunbuster) will be drawing the tentatively titled manga The Super Dimension Fortress Macross the First in the recently revealed Macross Ace magazine from Kadokawa Shoten. The January issue (on sale on November 26) of Kadokawa's Monthly Shonen Ace magazine will make the announcement. Vol. 001 of Macross Ace will debut on January 26, 2009 with 80 pages from Mikimoto's new manga. The manga will feature the star of the original Macross space war romance story that Mikimoto co-created, Lynn Minmay.

The magazine will also feature a tentatively titled Macross Frontier: Secret Visions story from Hiroyuki Yoshino, the series script supervisor for Macross Frontier. Macross Frontier is the recent 25th anniversary television series that helped bring about a resurgence in this science-fiction franchise's popularity. Monthly Shonen Ace's Hayato Aoki (Macross Frontier manga), Monthly Comp Ace's Sorahiko Mizushima (Macross Frontier: Dakishimete, Ginga no Hate made manga) and the Sneaker Bunko imprint's Ukyō Kodachi (Macross Frontier novels) will appear in the magazine.

Kadokawa already publishes Gundam Ace, a monthly manga magazine devoted to Sunrise's Gundam robot war franchise. Shogakukan and We've, Inc. have been releasing Macross Chronicle, a biweekly reference publication devoted to the Macross franchise, since July. Mikimoto drew the original character designs for the ongoing anime version of Yoshiki Tanaka's Tytania space opera novels. He was slated to work on the Appleseed: Genesis television anime series before it was cancelled earlier this year.

Update: According to Kadokawa's advertisement solicitation sheet, Macross Ace will have new gag comedy manga and manga based on new stories. It will also have information on the anime, DVDs, games, and toys, as well as columns by noted figures. The magazine will be positioned as a quarterly spinoff from Gundam Ace, and Kadokawa expects to publish 100,000 copies of the first 256-page issue for 560 yen each.

Palladium Books Press Release

First, the bad news:

Robotech®: The Masters Saga™ Sourcebook – December or January Release. Please don’t groan. This book is going to be epic. All new art and a ton of new, never-before-seen material – new mecha, new power armor, new weapons, new gear, new data and all the rest that you know and love. Epicness takes time and dedication. After a production meeting between Jason Marker and Kevin Siembieda, and after talking with the four main artists, we do not think we can get the Masters Saga out before Christmas. At least not without rushing the art and writing, and this is one book we do NOT want to rush. We are still shooting to get it done as fast as possible. In fact, we are still shooting for a December release, but it seems unlikely. We’ll see. Fear not, you will love this sourcebook.

And no sign of the cover art for the Masters Saga sourcebook yet. :(

And now, the good news:

Coming in 2009: Mysteries of Magic™ (Palladium Fantasy), Shemarrian Nation™, a Dead Reign™ sourcebook, Dimensional Outbreak™, Heroes of the Megaverse®, Armageddon Unlimited™, Megaverse® in Flames, Fleets of the Three Galaxies™, a Nightbane® sourcebook, Triax™ 2, Warpath™: Urban Jungle™ RPG (we hope, in time for the Palladium Open House!!), Robotech®: New Generation sourcebook, and a heck of a lot more. You ain’t seen nothing yet. If this economic downturn doesn’t crush Palladium’s sales (and so far it has not), we have one amazing book after another planned for you. Best of all, 80% of the titles listed above are already written and awaiting final editing, rewrites and production.

That's right, folks. Palladium's working on a revised New Generation sourcebook. 2009's gonna be a great year. :D

Michael Bradley Unplugged

As reported by CaptainJLS, Michael Bradley's all-acoustic album, Lonely Soldier Boy II, will be out on Dec. 1st, 2008.

This is wonderful news for this Robotech fan who's birthday (Dec. 6th) will follow the album's release. I'm sure that I will order both the original album and the acoustic sequel in the future.

Chris Meadows (a.k.a. Robotech_Master) has been injured in a scooter accident

Taken from Justy Ueki on the Robotech.com forums:

I just got off the phone with Chris Meadows (the host of Space Station Liberty) and he was involved in an accident and broke his left leg below the knee.
At the time of this forum posting, he is still in the hospital and should be discharged within the next couple of days.
He's going to be off of it for the next 6-8 weeks, and will have physical therapy afterwards.
Hopefully he'll heal quickly and heals well.
Please send him your warm wishes by going to his contact page at http://terrania.us/emailme.htm

I want to wish Chris a speedy recovery.

I, too, want Chris to make a full recovery.

Will the failure of the Live-Action Speed Racer film rock the future of other anime-to-silver screen films like Robotech?

Future of Anime Remains Bright Despite 'Speed Racer' Failure

I don't care what those jerks think negitively(sp) of the live-action Speed Racer film, for I yet to see, but I won't allow something like that to damper the spirits of forthcoming films such as Akira, Battle Angel Alita, and even Robotech.

The difference in the size of the Robotech: Shadow Chronicles sourcebooks

Size matters not. Look at me. Judge me by my size, do you?

Yoda to Luke Skywalker from Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back

With the recent success of the manga-sized copy of Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles, Palladium has recently announced that that an 8.5 by 11 inch hardcover version of the aforementioned sourcebook will be released later this summer to go along with the updated Macross and Southern Cross sourcebooks as well. No word on an updated Mospeada/New Generation sourcebook, but I hope that Palladium will be working on that and have it released sometime next year or sooner.

I happen to be the lucky owner of a hardcover Palladium sourcebook: Rifts: Ultimate Edition, and with the given information of additional material for the HC version of the RT:SC sourcebook such as additional spacecraft, more equipment and vehicles, and more data and material, this will be the must buy sourcebook of the summer.

Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles coming soon to Blu-Ray.

Now with Blu-Ray DVDs being the victor over HD-DVD, Robotech fans can rejoice by the news with FUNimation releasing Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles on Blu-Ray on 9/2/2008 for an MSRP of $39.98.

If you don't have either a Blu-Ray player or a Playstation 3, and you happen to be a dyed-in-the-wool Robotech fan, then go out and purchase one or the other right away.

Robotech II: The Sentinels 10 Years Later

Today is March 13, 2008, and this day marks the 10th anniversary that I've watched Robotech II: The Sentinels for the very first time, and got hooked on it ever since.

To me, Robotech II: The Sentinels will always be the canonical story that takes place between episodes To The Stars and Dana's Story, regardless of what Harmony Gold says about continuity since the great Robotech retcon of 2002.

I love the movie, I love the novels, I love the comics, and I even love the role-playing game from Palladium. If you haven't seen Robotech II: The Sentinels, then go to either eBay or Amazon.com and buy the film on either VHS, Laserdisc, or even DVD.
