This is not a dream, but a reality. Dynamite Comics brings forth two iconic 80's anime shows, Robotech and Voltron, and crosses them over into an excellent miniseries called Robotech/Voltron. CaptainJLS has reviewed it on his Dislocated Life blog and it is worth reading about.

Palladium Updates

Sorry to those who have been waiting for the Admiral's return from hiatus, but a lot's been going on since 2012 rang in. For starters, Palladium's Weekly Updates have been telling us that both the Robotech UEEF Marines and the Robotech Genesis Pits sourcebooks will be out sometime during Summer if not this Spring plus rumors of a Robotech miniature game set (from what I've heard) has been making the rounds on the Palladium Robotech forum for quite a while. But, there has been a recent death in the Macross family. Noburu Ishiguro, who had directed episodes of Macross, Yamato, etc., died on March 20th, 2012 at age 73 from a lung infection. So far, there hasn't been anything Robotech-related except for the aforementioned.

Palladium Robotech Sourcebooks updates

UPDATE: Robotech® New Generation Sourcebook. My editing and writing for Robotech® New Generation™ is done. Wayne is doing his edit of the final quarter of the book. The rest has been submitted to Harmony Gold for review and approval. I have assigned some of the artwork and will be assigning more. I love this book and hope final approval from Harmony Gold is quick and easy. An October release is looking solid.

We received the finished cover art from Apollo Okamura this afternoon. It looks pretty sweet. This book is coming together nicely.

UPDATE: Robotech® Genesis Pits Sourcebook. I’m really shooting for a December, 2011 release with the Genesis Pits sourcebook. Irvin has been working on it for a while now and it is coming along nicely.

UPDATE: Robotech® Marines Sourcebook. I want to see this book out early in 2012.

Robotech: New Generation Sourcebook is now 100% Complete

...And will be shipped to retailers in October.

UPDATE: Robotech® New Generation™ Sourcebook. My work on the book is done. Alex and Wayne are editing the last few sections before they are sent to Harmony Gold for final approval. Cover by Apollo Okamura should be finished any day now. I expect to be assigning artwork this weekend. If approvals by Harmony Gold are quick, the book should hit its October release date without difficulty. And remember, due to popular demand, Robotech® New Generation™ will be in the 8 ½ x 11 format, NOT manga-sized. NO more manga size. We’ve decided to stop doing manga-sized Robotech® books. Starting with the Robotech® New Generation™ Sourcebook, all future Robotech® supplements will be our usual 8½ x 11 size and format. If and when we sell out of the existing manga-sized books, we will reprint them in the larger, standard format.

Updates from Palladium

Ok, then. I know it's been almost 6 months since my last blog post, but I have an update or two from Palladium Books concerning the Robotech sourcebooks.

First, the Press Releases have been changed to Weekly Updates, and second, both the Robotech New Generation and Robotech UEEF Marines sourcebooks will be released sometime this Fall. As for when they will be released is still up in the air.

American Anime Producer Carl Macek Passes Away

Robotech producer's passing announced by Streamline co-founder Jerry Beck

Animation historian Jerry Beck reported on his blog on Sunday that American producer Carl Macek passed away due to a heart attack on Saturday. Macek and Beck had co-founded the anime importing company Streamline Pictures in 1988.

Macek is best known for producing Robotech, the 1985 redubbed and edited adaptation of three different anime series — Macross, Southern Cross, and Mospeada. He also worked on the dubbing of many anime projects from Captain Harlock and the Queen of a Thousand Years (redubbed and edited adaptation of Captain Harlock and Queen Millennia) to more recently, Bleach and Naruto. His other dubbing production credits include Vampire Hunter D, Robot Carnival, My Neighbor Totoro, and Aura Battler Dunbine. Although Streamline Pictures did not dub the 1988 film Akira, it did release the film in theaters and on video tape in the United States.

Outside anime, Macek wrote The Art of Heavy Metal (Animation for the Eighties), the 1981 book about the Canadian animated film Heavy Metal. That led to his co-writing credit on the Heavy Metal 2000 spinoff. He also developed the Lady Death film at ADV Films and wrote War Eagles, a novel based on an unproduced film treatment by Merian C. Cooper.

I am shocked beyond words at the passing of Carl Macek. He was the one who put together Macross, Southern Cross and MOSPEADA into an 85-episode series called Robotech which debuted in 1985. If it weren’t for Carl Macek, Robotech would never be possible. There wouldn’t be a series, spin-offs, movies, toys, the whole enchilada.

Carl will be missed.

Palladium Books Update: 04/03/2010

Both the forthcoming Robotech UEEF Marines Sourcebook and the Robotech New Generation Sourcebook will both be released sometime this Summer, according to Palladium's latest press release. Both books will be manga-sized, just like the previous books.

The forthcoming Robotech UEEF Marines Sourcebook is now available for pre-order at Palladium's online store with a release date to take place sometime this Fall, 2009. I hope it won't be delayed to early next year for those who wanted said sourcebook for the holiday season.

And I want to apologize for not posting much during the 19 days that I was absent because my PC was taken into have it fixed (I was hacked, BTW) and I'm happy to say that I'm back. :D

REF Marines title revealed

According to this week's Palladium Books Press Release, the title to Palladium's forthcoming Robotech RPG sourcebook has been revealed. As for the cover art, it's still up in the air as of this typing.
